Burbage During the Great War
Burbage During the Great War

Pedal to Paris 2020 with the Royal British Legion

I've decided to go back next year and will be looking for sponsorship!  It's my forth time with the Legion and the 25th Anniversary of the Ride.  I've just about exhausted the patience of friends and family who have donated over the last few years.  As in previous years I will do research for a fee on a first come first served basis - details below!  I would also welcome sponsorship from businesses so please do get in touch if you can help.  Five from Burbage will go this year and it would be good if we could produce a team shirt for the event.

As in previous years, I will be paying the upfront entry fee (£700) but the Legion asks that participants generate a further £900 in donations!

For a payment of  £25 to the Royal British Legion on my JustGiving Page, I will research your First World War Royal Navy, British Army or civilian relative and send you copies of all pertinent documents that I can find including Royal Navy/British Army Service Record & WW1 pension records, UK Medal Roll Card Index and a copy of the medal rolls, Silver War Badge entitlement, London Gazette entries, Commonwealth War Graves detail (where appropriate) and UK Census Returns for 1871-1911 listing your relative.

I will also write a short summary outlining my findings.  You should note that the results of my research are entirely dependent on what’s available which in some cases could be very little and I can only research UK Residents.  However, I would expect to spend many hours researching each individual.

So take this opportunity to find out more about your Great War relative and support the Royal British Legion.

Go to my Pedal to Paris page by clicking on the button below.

Make a payment (clearly showing your name), then email me at:

I will get back to you for the information I need to get started.  Please note that payments for research should not be 'gift-aided'.

For the avoidance of doubt all sponsorship money will go to the RBL.  I have paid entry fees separately - the fees cover food, accommodation and the train ride back!
